As the Atari landed in millions of homes, cartridges gained extra memory with clever bank-switching techniques. Games could be bigger! ✨Programmers learned to change colours and shapes mid-line, so one “character” could become many🪄 #Museum #Atari #VCS #Swindon #1970s #2600

The Atari VCS didn’t remember a full picture the way later consoles did. 📺 It had almost no memory — barely enough to jot down a short note 📝 — and a custom chip that had to draw the screen live as the TV’s electron beam swept across it, line by line.⚡ #Museum #Atari #Swindon

Picture this. 🎄It’s Christmas 1978. An electronic box from the US lands in the living room. 📦 It's here in the UK! ✨ You plug the Atari VCS into the family television and suddenly you’re controlling what’s on screen. 📺🕹️ #Museum #Atari #VCS #Swindon #retro #1970s #nostalgia

🕹️ SNES: Reached Britain in 1992 with Mario and a pricey-but-faithful Street Fighter II. The US got a sharper purple-grey shell -designer Lance Barr said the original looked like a “bag of bread” 🍞. Europe kept the Japanese curves. US angles or Euro smoothness? #SNES #Swindon

Remember the Atari Lynx? In 1989 it felt almost like sci-fi 🚀 While everyone else fought over the family TV 📺, the Lynx let you take full-colour, 16-bit backlit gaming anywhere! #AtariLynx #RetroGaming #HandheldGaming #GamingHistory #Swindon #Museum
