Great to see so many civic leaders at last night's @ABetterNY reception and to be honored alongside two others who played vital roles in bringing our city back after the 9/11 terrorist attacks: Ken Chenault and @JulieMenin. The Tribute in Light illuminates the New York City skyline tonight in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11 – and reminds the world of the strength and unity New Yorkers showed in the days that followed.

Tonight’s Tribute in Light will be broadcast live in a first-of-its-kind special, commemorating the 25th anniversary of September 11th. In partnership with the @Sept11Memorial, the program will honor the lives lost and remind us of the resilience and strength that followed. Like so many others, my memory of September 11, 2001 starts with the blue sky over New York. Twenty-five years later, people still talk about how clear and bright it was. At the @Sept11memorial, artist Spencer Finch captures those memories in “Trying to Remember the Color of the Sky on That September Morning” – 2,983 panels, each hand-painted a different shade of blue, one for each person killed in the 2001 and 1993 attacks on the World Trade Center. It’s powerful, and if you’re in New York City, I hope you’ll come see it.

The world was never the same after Gloria Steinem came to New York City to blaze new trails in the fight for full equality. She helped revolutionize American journalism as she fearlessly advanced women’s rights both here and abroad.
