@TheBookshopMan Cold days with rain against the windows make for the best reading for me. Unfortunately, it's still 90 most of the time here. Almost want to read a story set somewhere cold to manifest, but I'm currently on: It Has Always Been You by Sloan Miller.

@timmckay52 The shorter, clipped sentences carry so much more suspense and tension too... Styles and voices are meant to be different. Not every reader likes the staccato from the top, not every reader wants more traditional sentences from the bottom. Doesn't make one right, one wrong.

@JstWhomever One of the reasons AI churns out certain writing was because it was viewed as good for a long time. I wouldn't say completely stop using elements because of AI, but it has put a spotlight on style. AI or not, don't "overuse" any rhetorical device.

@DelendaStories I think the villains (or any main character) shouldn't be flat in most stories. With the reference given, Joker functioned as the protagonist too. But does "tragic back story" have to be the only technique to unflatten characters...that part does feel overused.

@Jameswriter371 Ad-supported kindles or the front/back matter with buy more or follow me messages kind of refute this. But you're right, those are different than pretty much any other form of media. They don't really occur in the middle and are much more specific to the audience.
