DIY Rekenrek Ideas for Home and School To encourage teachers and other adults to use rekenreks, it's important to not only go over ways to use a rekenrek, but also we thought we would make sure everyone has opportunities to have them, whatever the budget. earlymath.erikson.edu/diy-rekenrek-h…

The MathRack Clock can be used in multiple grades for duration of time, elapsed time, multiplication, money, fractions and much more! Its design is a unique use of the MathRack's red and white 'beads' representing the duration of minutes and showing fiveness!

Erikson’s foundational understanding that every operation tells a story makes so much sense to kids as Erikson connects text to operations. Join their group and visit their site for a wealth of information for our youngest mathematicians!!! #mathrack20#loveErikson

Just as number sense develops when children are clear that something is being counted, the ability to make sense of number operations depends on the foundational understanding that EVERY OPERATION TELLS A STORY. More: earlymath.erikson.edu/why-early-math…

All of our units honor Gravemeijer’s research on how kids develop models as tools for thinking. 1. Models first come out of a situation/context. 2. We model students’ thinking over time in the model. 3. Kids use the model to think with (not just told) newperspectivesonlearning.com

Kids need to use number lines. But, if we can't show just them the model and expect they'll use it with understanding, how are they supposed to learn it? CFLM has shattered this paradox. Check out all the new units that use contexts to generate models at newperspectivesonlearning.com

We are called to walk the edge, between the structures of mathematics & the development of the child. We have to understand deeply the development of the mathematics by considering the progression of strategies, the big ideas & emergent models. Fosnot - Models of Intervention
