NEW PREPRINT: For 2-photon imaging (or any laser scanning), fast scanning often shrinks the field-of-view and/or decreases resolution. Che-Hang Yu found a bunch of ways to increase the field-of-view, with no trade-offs in speed or resolution. 1/2 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

I have new posts and whatnot here: neuromatch.social/@sls I'm on mastodon because it's simple, clean, open, and a community. It's not perfect, but there's no profit-driven algorithm. Bluesky is nice from what I hear, but it could easily run into the same issues. (1/3)

2¹³⁶²⁷⁹⁸⁴¹−1, discovered today, is the largest known prime. It's a Mersenne prime (2ᵖ-1), which are easier to find. It took nearly 6 years for the GIMPS software to find it after the previous largest known prime. It was also the first Mersenne prime found using GPUs.
