A photo, a thank-you note, a letter, or an article—we save the things that are most important to us. We put them away somewhere. Unfortunately, we often never see them again. Our loved ones go through them after we’re gone, not knowing how much they meant to us. Well, I’m taking that journey through the most memorable moments of my past now, while I’m still here. In my October Rockaway Wave article, I share how this journey began and what the experience has been like for me. Hopefully, it will motivate others to revisit those special things now, rather than never. rockawave.com/articles/fox-o…

@TerriLynnFinest Good morning, Terri. Actually, I’m going to end my speech in November speaking about what this process does for us and how it makes me reevaluate a lot of my life. Good timing! Thank you and have a great day

Here’s to being the one who gets out there. Here’s to sharing good news instead of bad news. Here’s to treating ourselves as well as we deserve. Here’s to us!

Finally! When I’ve taken photos with people in the scene, I usually haven’t realized the value of the shot until the person has already left. But this time, I got to approach this woman after she came down from the rocks. The smile on her face was as beautiful as the moment I was able to capture. She was so happy when I offered to send her the photo. I think I made a new friend! And I’m reminded: There’s no such thing as a stranger—only a friend you have yet to meet. Here’s to new people coming into our lives!

“A journey of yes!” My new motto: Say yes to everything, unless and until there’s a reason to say no. Here’s to welcoming more into our lives: insights, activities, understanding, and people.

I’m pretty sure there are more sunrises and sunsets behind me than ahead of me, so I will certainly enjoy each one. Just as importantly, I’ll cherish those miracle moments in between.

Hazards to making these videos. I had no idea this lantern fly was all over me until I watched it after. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣 Seriously, these videos are very important to me. Sometimes I do multiple takes before I come up with the one that feels absolutely perfect to me. This was the one! Then, when I watched it back, I saw this little guy all over me. I knew that if I used this take for the message I put out last week, no one would hear the message. It would be Mike Pence with the fly on him all over again!

A walk with my friend Paul Martinka, on the beach and down Memory Lane Gone are the days when I catch up with a friend over lunch in a restaurant. We have a much better time walking. The conversation is uninterrupted, and the left-right movement of our bodies stimulates conversation. The outdoor air is so soothing. What a great time I had on the boardwalk with my friend Paul Martinka! We actually go back to the 1980s. I was an anti-crime sergeant in the 61st Precinct, and he was a photographer for the Bay News. We often met at crime scenes and community events. Over the years, our responsibilities grew, our families grew, and we became closer. Now a photographer for the New York Post, Paul is a true artist. I have shared his photographs of events throughout the city many times. Whenever Paul took photos of firefighters and police officers in action, he would send them to me so I could make sure everyone involved received copies. When my mom passed away in 2011, Paul came to the viewing. But he did not come by himself. I looked up and saw him entering the funeral home with his wife, Dorothy, and their daughters, Emily and Becky. They also came as a family to my retirement party in May 2018. Early in the evening, however, Paul got up from the table where he and his family were seated and stayed by my side for the rest of the night, taking every photograph that captured that wonderful occasion. He stayed until the very end and was one of the last people to leave Russo’s on the Bay with me. Through my friendship with Paul, I am reminded that it is not only first responders who witness horrific events throughout the city. Paul—and photographers like him—are at every one of them. Through it all, Paul remains the man he has always been: a person of character, a man of faith, and someone who truly cares about others. Thank you, Paul Martinka, for the gift of you.

I loved my time in DC, but I am so thankful for this moment on the beach, welcoming me home to our beautiful Rockaway. Have a wonderful night, everyone!
