16 years ago my Dad was on the Colbert Report. A stock photo I’d taken of him — a Tejano, 3rd-generation son of migrant workers — was used in a sarcastic bit about gatekeeping what it means to be a “real American.” As Colbert says “Mexicans” my Dad’s photo popped up. We’ve always laughed wondering what the producers searched on Getty Images to stumble upon my Dad. Unfortunately the joke is still relevant today.
