This is Texas athletics director Chris Del Conte’s full statement on the “embarrassing” conduct concerns the Longhorns had during the Tennessee game, via the Forty Acres Insider: “We can all agree it was a heck of a game and an incredible performance on the field, but I also know we had some major issues to address with inappropriate celebrations from our players. I'm not happy about that, I know none of us are, and it was embarrassing to our proud and widely respected football team, athletics program and university. It certainly raised very warranted concerns that many of you shared with me, drew a lot of attention, and I understand why. Rest assured, Coach Sark has addressed both situations with the players individually and with the team, and he discussed them after the game and again in Monday's press conference. As he said, it is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. “The message is clear — the players conduct did not reflect the values of Texas Athletics or our university and cannot happen again. I also want to add my apology to our Longhorn community and everyone who expects better from Texas. We should represent this university with class, dignity and respect at all times, and in those moments, we fell short. I do recognize that these are young men who made mistakes, and this is a meaningful learning experience. They have owned their mistakes, and those actions are not reflective of who they are. They are good people who made poor choices — they know it, we know it, and they, along with our entire team, will grow from this. What matters now is that they do just that and that our entire team understands the responsibility that comes with representing The University of Texas. We are proud of the team and what it accomplished Saturday and thus far this season, and we will continue to hold ourselves to the standard that all of you rightly expect from Texas. Thank you for your passion, your candor and your unwavering support of our Longhorns.”

Steve Sarkisian met privately with Raleek Brown and Colin Simmons about their celebrations over the weekend. "It's not who we are as a team," he said.

"Arch made fools out of everybody in that room, because they helped make him look like a fool. They all laughed, and he took all the heat." If any media member is lamenting Arch Manning's short responses this week, maybe look inward first.

As a Giants fan, nobody had (or has) a better personality than Arch’s Uncle Eli, but you never would’ve known that if all you saw were Eli’s press conferences. There are other, better places to let your personality shine than the podium.

Just now seeing this, courtesy of @TravisRecek. Arch has an incredible personality. Don’t think we’ll see much of it for a while, though. x.com/TravisRecek/st…

Arch Manning’s apology was a start. But there’s a bigger conversation to be had about why an AI video depicting violence against women became something to spread and laugh about in the first place. My column on accountability, and what means for women in sports: thedailytexan.com/2026/09/17/san…

Kudos to Sark for taking some responsibility for the postgame mishap on ESPN, which started a chain reaction that has obviously distracted from the huge win vs. Ohio State. As a UT grad and season ticket holder, it put a bad taste in my mouth, but now we can put this whole thing to bed. Men, none of us are perfect. We have to remember that it’s okay to admit when we make a mistake, and apologize when necessary. It’s not capitulation or an admission of weakness. It’s actually a huge show of strength.

@MoodyBlueliner I PROMISE you this goes away much quicker because he apologized than if he hadn’t. Reasonable people can give a young person grace for a silly mistake if they own up to it. If you continue to see negative coverage of him on this beyond this week, then I’m wrong.

Where are you getting the information that there were technical difficulties after the game? The Athletic reported that *Texas* said there were, but there’s no evidence that’s true. Fowler throws to Rowe 66 seconds after the game ends, immediately following the initial celebrations and Sark’s handshake with Ryan Day. There was no delay, awkward pause or anything on the broadcast that would’ve indicated technical difficulties in that moment.

The Arch Manning-Holly Rowe kerfuffle was a prime example of good-hearted people making honest mistakes, and then owning them and apologizing with grace. Pretty uplifting, actually.

@IsaiahT_Rosario Once upon a time, it WAS the job of the head football coach at a massive university to be a roll model and set a good example. Obviously not anymore. Words said in private only go so far as the people involved. And you can’t assume he HAS reached out either. I assume not.

Arch Manning was criticized more for LAUGHING at an Internet meme than Josh Jacobs was for allegedly hitting a woman. Here we go again, fake violence intended to be funny is worse than actual domestic violence.
