B&T USA Welcomes ATF Guidance Applying Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF Ruling Nationwide Suppressors now transfer through licensed dealers with a Form 4473 and a background check, the same as any other firearm B&T USA, a plaintiff in Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF, welcomed guidance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that applies the court's Aug. 5 ruling in the case nationwide. Under the guidance, ATF will no longer require federal approval or registration to transfer suppressors, short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns. On Aug. 5, U.S. District Judge James Wesley Hendrix of the Northern District of Texas held that the National Firearms Act's registration and approval requirements for suppressors, short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns exceed Congress' taxing power now that the federal making and transfer tax on those items is $0. The court entered a permanent injunction barring ATF and the Justice Department from enforcing those requirements against the plaintiffs and, where applicable, their members and customers. The Justice Department did not appeal, and the deadline to do so passed Oct. 5. The guidance took effect Oct. 9 and also covers certain "any other weapons." While the court's injunction covers only those parties, ATF said it will take the same approach for everyone as a matter of enforcement discretion. "The direction from the President, Congress, and the courts is clear," ATF Director Robert Cekada said in announcing the guidance. "B&T USA joined this case because the registration requirements for these products no longer rested on the authority Congress used to create them," said Sean Sullivan, founder of B&T USA. "The ATF's guidance takes that ruling nationwide. For buyers, that means a suppressor now moves through a dealer the same way any other firearm does, with a Form 4473 and a background check. This is one of the biggest changes for suppressor owners since the NFA became law in 1934, and we're proud to have helped make it happen." B&T USA has spent the past year building for this moment. Since late 2025, the company has grown its 88,000-square-foot Herriman facility from three employees to more than 85, added a full in-house machine shop and brought design, machining, finishing, engraving and shipping under one roof. The facility can now produce up to 7,000 suppressors per month, and its lineup includes 3D-printed titanium suppressors and hybrid models that combine Inconel and titanium. The guidance does not repeal the National Firearms Act. Machine guns and destructive devices remain fully regulated. Suppressors, short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns are still firearms under the Gun Control Act, so background checks, dealer records and the ban on prohibited persons still apply. Transporting a short-barreled rifle or shotgun across state lines still requires ATF approval through a Form 20. State and local laws still apply. ATF has said its approach is a matter of enforcement discretion that could change. ATF also will continue to process registration applications for anyone who chooses to file them. Youth Pheasant Season Includes Special Youth Hunts The Oct. 24-25 statewide youth pheasant, quail and partridge season for hunters ages 15 and younger provides an excellent opportunity to mentor new hunters. "The annual youth season is a great opportunity for young hunters to enjoy time outdoors having a fun, safe upland bird hunt," said Bryan O'Connor, upland game program manager for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. "This season is an excellent low-pressure environment for young hunters to gain skills, experience and confidence." Resident youth (age 15 or younger) do not need a permit to hunt small game, but nonresident youth must have a small game hunting permit and habitat stamp. Only youth are allowed to hunt during the youth season, except at designated Special Youth Hunt locations, where accompanying adults also are allowed to hunt. Game and Parks will release rooster pheasants at the following Special Youth Hunt locations/wildlife management areas (with county): Arnold Trupp (Morrill), Arrowhead (Gage), Bordeaux (Dawes), Branched Oak (Lancaster), Cornhusker (Hall), George Syas (Nance), Hickory Ridge (Johnson), James N. Pheasants will not be released this season at Peru Bottoms WMA in Nemaha County, where a construction project is taking place. At Special Youth Hunt locations, the daily bag limit is two rooster pheasants for youth and one rooster pheasant for the accompanying adult. The accompanying adult must be a licensed hunter aged 19 or older and only one adult per youth will be allowed to hunt. Non-toxic shot is required at Kirkpatrick Basin North, Randall W. Schilling and Wilkinson wildlife management areas — all other hunting regulations also apply. Benelli Athlete Heather Eckhardt Helps Team USA Capture Gold at IPSC Shotgun World Shoot Benelli congratulates Pro Staff shooter Heather Eckhardt on helping Team USA capture gold in the Ladies Modified division at the 2026 IPSC Shotgun World Shoot in Corinth, Greece. Held September 21 through October 4, the IPSC Shotgun World Shoot brought together more than 900 competitors from around the world for one of the most demanding events in practical shotgun competition. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is asking hunters to submit deer for chronic wasting disease testing when they harvest from Mecosta, Newaygo, Kent, Montcalm and Ionia counties during the 2026 hunting season. The DNR is looking closely at these counties this year after last doing intensive CWD sampling in the area in 2019, with the goal of understanding how levels of disease have changed. The DNR has completed rotational CWD testing in every part of Michigan and established baseline data for the entire state. Now, officials are returning to southwest Michigan to gather updated information that can help determine options for disease management. "We need to understand the prevalence of CWD in this group of counties to determine what disease management options are available, and we are asking the local hunting community for their support. We can't get this done without you," said Brent Rudolph, deer, elk and moose management specialist for the DNR Wildlife Division. "Our goal is to understand the prevalence of CWD, meaning how common it is in this specific area. We are committed to sharing our findings and engaging with local hunters, landowners and community stakeholders before making decisions about management options." Why CWD matters Wildlife biologists are increasingly concerned that CWD could cause permanent declines in the deer population in the future. Once established in an area, CWD spreads slowly through a herd. In parts of the U.S., this has caused declines in population, and the overall health of deer herds has suffered. CWD is a progressive and transmissible neurological disease for which there is no known cure. This means that the disease slowly kills a deer over time, and an infected deer will spread the disease within its social group throughout its lifetime. A deer can be infected and spread the disease to other deer for a long time before having noticeable symptoms and can look and behave in a healthy way. "As conservationists, our goal is to support the long-term health of Michigan's deer herd," Rudolph said. "When it comes to CWD, that means slowing the spread of the disease and preventing it from spreading to new areas. We know that hunters share our goal of ensuring that Michigan's white-tailed deer are here for future generations, and we thank them for submitting deer samples that contribute to this important work." The DNR Wildlife Division has been monitoring the spread of CWD in white-tailed deer since the first case was detected in a privately owned cervid in Kent County in 2008, followed by the first case in free-ranging deer in Ingham County in 2015. To date, CWD is known to be present in 18 counties in Michigan, as well as across 37 U.S. states. At this time, CWD has not been shown to be transmissible to humans.

Federal Shooter Mein Captures Event Titles at South Central Regional Federal Ammunition congratulates Derrick Mein on winning two events at the South Central Regional competition. The 2026 NSCA South Central Regional Championship was held at Providence Hill Farm in Mississippi on Sep 29 to Oct 4, 2026. The event drew 772 of the best NSCA competitors over the week. "I think the location of this event is the premier sporting clays course in the world," said Mein. "The place looked amazing, and the course was well set yet challenged my ability, forced me to pay attention and stay on top of my game." The two-time Olympian took home the High Over All honors in two events. Mein won the FITASC event, hitting 94 out of 100 targets, and besting 414 shooters. Additionally, he won the 5-Stand event, hitting an impressive 99 out of 100 targets which had 416 shooters. Mein also finished Runner-Up a Prelim event. Federal shooter Cameron Hicks earned Runner-Up honors in another Prelim event as well. Mein loads his shotgun with Federal's Gold Medal Paper shotshells when competing at NSCA events.
