This is devastating & entirely preventable. This is the picture in London but rough sleeping is rising across England. We badly need affordable homes & specialist support services, yet the response from Govt is to criminalise rough sleeping through the Criminal Justice Bill
The latest figures have been published for the number of people sleeping on the streets in London for Oct-Dec 2023. The news is grim. The total figure (4,389) is the highest for a decade & more than half are sleeping rough for the first time. #MakeHistory

The UK Government is trying to pass new laws that would criminalise sleeping on the streets with a fine up to £2,500, or even prison.

The Criminal Justice Bill introduces laws that criminalises homelessness. This was meant to be thing of the past. It was wonderful to see MPs speak out against this. If you haven't signed our petition against replacing one bad law with another you can here crisis.org.uk/get-involved/c…
Yesterday MPs from all parties spoke out against Gov plans to criminalise rough sleeping by the back door. No one should be punished for being homeless. These laws must be removed. We're grateful to see such a strong message from MPs for people to be supported not criminalised.
