1 in 8 cancers worldwide are caused by infection, according to this new WHO study. The biggest culprit isn't a virus, it's a stomach bacteria called H. pylori. (760,000 cases in 2024) I've had H pylori myself and cleared it in multiple clients. Here's the full protocol: Before we begin... half the world carries H. pylori and has no idea. Most people who carry it also never develop cancer. This new research, at a minimum, warrants greater awareness and voices with experience to share their 2 cents. So here I am. One of my cases: trstp.lt/2GLXu_-dSu Now, let's start with 𝟭/ "𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗛. 𝗣𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶?" It's a gram-negative bacteria that infects the gut lining and burrows into the mucosal layer. This causes inflammation, impairs the mucosal immune system, and opens up the door to further infection. H. pylori lives in one of the most acidic places in the body, so it has to take measures to survive. It does this by producing an enzyme called urease, which converts urea into ammonia. This ammonia raises the local pH just enough for the bacterium to live. (Think of this like an acid-neutral bubble it creates around itself) 𝟮/ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗛. 𝗣𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗚𝘂𝘁 Over time, H. pylori irritates and weakens the stomach lining. This damages acid-producing cells which, in combination with inflammatory signals, lowers stomach acid. Suppression of stomach acid causes downstream issues in the gut, because bacteria that would otherwise be killed by stomach acid survive and multiply. Collectively this leads to dysbiosis (an imbalanced gut), and often increased gut permeability (leaky gut). Anecdotally, it's very rare that I see H. pylori presence in a GI-MAP that isn't accompanied by broader dysbiosis. This profile can also (in cases) result in acid reflux/GERD, through a causal chain I'll share in another post. 𝟯/ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸 (𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱) H. pylori's survival mechanism may be one of the reasons it's so highly associated with cancer. Low stomach acid → bacterial overgrowth → higher conversion of dietary nitrates into N-nitroso compounds (known carcinogens) This is one part of a complex pathway. The domino effect of H. Pylori doesn’t just stop in the GI tract. Low acid weakens the signals that trigger bile flow, so fat digestion slows and absorption of vitamins A, D, E, and K declines. At this point, a single infection has triggered a cascade of events that presents itself as IBS-type symptoms, anxiety, nutrient deficiencies, and even chronic fatigue. Complicating matters further, H. pylori produces two potent toxins. - VacA: punches microscopic holes in stomach cells - CagA: disrupts cellular signalling and is strongly associated with chronic inflammation These toxins confuse the immune system, disturb the microbiome, and can trigger symptoms beyond the digestive tract. 𝟰/ 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 Testing for H. pylori can produce a lot of false-negatives (especially breath testing). We prefer to stool test. Standard treatment relies on antibiotics and acid blockers. This can (in cases) do more harm than good. To quote one of our successful cases when they arrived: "I was diagnosed with IBS after an H. pylori infection. Despite undergoing two rounds of antibiotic treatment, my symptoms didn’t improve—if anything, the antibiotics disrupted my gut bacteria even further. For the past two years, I’ve struggled with IBS, indigestion, bloating, chronic constipation, and diarrhea." Not fun. Eradication rates drop significantly over time due to resistance. Eradication can also be difficult due to H. pylori's ability to hide in biofilms. 𝟱/ 𝗠𝘆 𝗛. 𝗣𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹 (𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽-𝗕𝘆-𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽) So what did I do about my infection? To preface: This is not a cancer protocol, nor does it cover the pathway of investigation for cancer. If you're experiencing any red flags like bleeding, excessive weight loss, trouble swallowing, family history of gastric cancers, speak to your doc. Let's get into it: 1. Stool test: GI-MAP Test, don't guess. Each individual is at a different stage in the cascade, with a different profile of root causes. The approach should be tailored accordingly. 2. Elimination diet There's a temptation to hop on a bunch of supplements or protocols. First, get your diet in order. Cut the irritants, processed foods, alcohol/cigarettes. Strip out the common allergens and FODMAPs. Here's a sample meal plan: (so there's no excuse) bensmithlive.com/_files/ugd/d92… 3. Create the environment for eradication a) Reduce inflammation and prepare the immune system with fasting/broth, glutamine, curcumin phytosome, boswellia, PEA. b) Rebuild stomach acid with digestive bitters, ACV, digestive enzymes + pepsin, some of my favourites. (skip HCl/pepsin if you have active ulcers, high gut sensitivity, burning) c) NAC also has some evidence for improving eradication before intervention. d) Get your body's primary detox pathways working: Stools consistent and stable, sauna, lymphatic hops. plenty of leafy greens. 4. Targeted intervention (protocol) • Biofilm disruptor: Interfase Plus, breaks down the protective biofilm H. Pylori hides in • Cranberry juice: I like 1-2 tbsp concentrate topped with distilled water, makes it harder for H. Pylori to stick to the stomach lining • BroccoMax: Broccoli sprout sulforaphane, directly reduces the H. pylori load (and calms inflammation) • Mastic gum: A resin from mastic tree with direct anti-H. Pylori properties • EGCg: Green tea extract that inhibits urease, strips away the acid-neutral bubble • Lauricidin: Monolaurin, breaks down outer membrane of harmful bacteria whilst largely sparing beneficial strains • Antimicrobial stack: Berberine, black seed oil, etc. (constructed around GI-MAP) - hits the H. Pylori and broader dysbiosis • Bismuth: Also antimicrobial, anti-biofilm, typical first-line intervention for doctors • Binders: Chlorella, charcoal, clay, taken away from food and supplements - mop up toxins/die-off Florastor S Boulardii and L. reuteri also boost eradication and cut the side effects. →→ Retest to confirm progress 5. Seal the gut, re-populate with probiotics. Cycle back to steps in 3) to re-establish foundations. Stack onto this with ample fibre and fermented foods. Sodium butyrate to start if fibre-sensitive. Repopulate the microbiome with broad-spectrum probiotics like VSL#3. Switch to spore-based or histaminX if having histamine reactions. Colostrum titrated up as tolerated. A nice way to consolidate the gains. 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆/ 𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 This is what I did. This is what our clients have done.
