🇪🇷🇪🇬🇺🇸 You see how #ElSisi always warmly receives U.S. officials and openly expresses his views, in some cases disagreeing with U.S. policies, while still keeping Egypt🇪🇬 as an ally of the #West, specifically the United States🇺🇸? Why couldn't #Eritrea🇪🇷 do that over the last few decades? This is the kind of leadership #Eritrea needed—and will need—in the future. #Eritrea does not have to abandon its values, and it can work with the United States🇺🇸 without outright rejecting it. A leaders' personal ideology should be different from a pragmatic policy approach that benefits the nation. I hope that will be #Eritrea's future. I can only hope. If there is no market reform that promotes the private sector internally, and no relationship with the world's largest and most powerful #economy, the United States🇺🇸, then how is #Eritrea going to make it? The US has finally removed the unilateral sanctions on Eritrea today. Congratulations to the people and Government of #Eritrea for their steadfastness, resilience, and principled approach that made this development a reality. The unilateral sanctions imposed on Eritrea by the Biden Administration in 2021 were unwarranted and caused undue damage on Eritrea. Now that they have been removed, we welcome this positive gesture and corrective measures taken by the Trump Administration. Today’s move by the US should mark the beginning of a new chapter in the Eritrea-US relations, that we envision to be grounded in #sovereign respect, mutual interests, and the pursuit of a mutually beneficial #partnership. 🇪🇷🇺🇸

Good news, and I hope to see the results. I think we have seen this kind of discussion before, similar to the trips to China🇨🇳, South Korea🇰🇷, Russia🇷🇺, and Italy🇮🇹. Nothing major in terms of investment has been accomplished as far as helping ordinary citizens through private-sector employment, housing, improved living standards, etc. I have to be very frank here. #Economic growth comes from decentralized, liberated, institutionalized, and delegated authorities working hand in hand with the private sector. That is what is missing in Eritrea🇪🇷. We have seen many trips by Mr. Hagos’s office like this, but nothing will fundamentally change in Eritrea🇪🇷 even if investments come. Pro-market and private-sector reforms have to be implemented first. Where are they? I always say that I have no problem with #Shaebia/#PFDJ leading the nation. I am not into politics at all. In fact, even if reforms are required to attract Western🇺🇸🇪🇺 investment—which I want to see in #Eritrea—I genuinely believe that a united party should be led by #PFDJ. A strong state is necessary for the private sector to grow. But it cannot be handled from one central office without independent institutions and local governments that can work closely with and support the private sector. A system of 100% state/party dominance has not produced sustained economic growth in global economic history because it lacks motivation and profit incentives for citizens and foreign investors, and it has not served #Eritrea🇪🇷 well over the last 35 years.🤷‍♂️

#Eritrea's senior delegation composed of Mr. Hagos Gebrehiwet, Head of PFDJ Economic Affairs; and Mr, Nesredin Mohammed Saleh, the Minister of Trade and Industry; held a meeting in Riyadh in the afternoon hours today, with Mr. Waleed Alkhereiji, the Saudi Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. The extensive discussions focused on full appraisal and progress of bilateral ties of cooperation in various fields; its enhancement in the period ahead; as well as other issues of mutual interest. Eritrea's senior delegation had met yesterday with senior officials in the Ministry of Energy as well as the Saudi National Oil Company (ARAMCO) to discuss concrete areas of mutual cooperation.

🇪🇷 🇪🇹 Vicious cycle: No matter what, every #Eritrean will defend and protect #Eritrea from any enemy, be it #Ethiopia or anyone else, especially given the way #Eritreans secured their freedom by sacrificing thousands of family members. I am one of them. However, we, the citizens, are obligated to speak up and correct the leadership when the same mistakes have been repeated since Independence Day, especially when it comes to handling #Ethiopia diplomatically. Yes, forcefully, no force from #Ethiopia should be allowed to endanger #Eritrea’s existence. But when I say “diplomatically,” I mean dealing with the superpowers🇺🇸🇪🇺 and their allies that support #Ethiopia. If #Eritrea continues to distance itself from those powers, it inadvertently not only allows but also supports #Ethiopian leaders’ ability to attack #Eritrea or use the #Eritrean threat to prolong their corrupt grip on power. We saw this with #Meles, and now we are seeing it with @AbiyAhmedAli. What is next? While #Eritrea is using its financial and human resources to prepare for a potential war with #Ethiopia—which is understandable—it is still neglecting political and economic reforms that could persuade #Western powers to build stronger relations with #Eritrea in a post-#AbiyAhmedAli era. As a result, the #Eritrean economy and the #Eritrean people continue to suffer while missing valuable economic opportunities—the “opportunity cost.” When is #Eritrea, or #Shaebia, going to break this vicious cycle? For the third time, I see the same mistake being made as we speak: there is still no meaningful economic or political reform being implemented in #Eritrea. Open the market and political system gradually. Create united political parties, at least two, with slightly different ideologies, particularly on economic policy, giving the #Eritrean people and economy more choices while also giving Western🇪🇺🇺🇸 powers and investors more reason to choose #Eritrea over #Ethiopia, given #Eritrea’s strategic importance. It is time to break the cycle.
