The oldest flood survivor story is not Noah's Ark. It is Ziusudra, written in Sumerian on clay centuries before Genesis. Then Atrahasis, then Utnapishtim, then Noah. Four versions of one event, each older than the last one we found. So, what were they all remembering?

He was 2/3 Human!! In the old Mesopotamian traditions, the original seven Apkallu aren't described as normal humans. They are sages tied to Enki/Ea and the Apsu (water) part fish and part "man". They come from the waters, carry knowledge, and are connected to the ordering of civilization itself. Then the Flood happens. Later texts start describing sages who are “of human descent.” After the Flood, their replacements are specifically human. In the texts there is a sage named and is described as “two-thirds Apkallu.” Who the fuck writes that unless they're being specific! That sounds a shit of a lot like the old tradition was remembering some kind of mixed lineage between the original sages and humans. Another of the seven, named Utuabzu, is remembered as the one “who ascended to heaven.” Just so you know this doesn't happen with Apkallu or sages. There are also traditions of the original sages being sent back into the Apsu (Water Persian Gulf) and disappearing from the human world. So look at the pattern because I really believe patterns tell stories. Before the Flood you have strange fish non human sages coming from the water, possessing knowledge mankind supposedly did not have. One ascends to heaven. Then the Flood wipes everything out. After, the original beings are gone and sages of human descent appear, including one described as only partially 2/3 Apkallu. Eventually, completely human scholars inherit the role. So originally: Contact with humanity. Transfer of knowledge. Flood. Then return to the Persian Gulf. Mixed descendants. Then humans carrying the knowledge forward. If we found that exact sequence in a modern contact case we would immediately recognize what it sounds like. And this story is thousands of years old.

Before the Flood, the world was different. In Mesopotamia, kings ruled for impossible lengths of time. The Apkallu were non human sages associated with the Apsu who brought knowledge to mankind. Then the Flood crushes everrything. After, the sages become more human and kingship basically starts again. Genesis tells a pretty much the same story. People live for hundreds of years. The Nephilim and “sons of God” appear before the Flood. Then the catastrophe happens and human lifespans collapse afterward. In 1 Enoch, the Watchers descend and teach humans things they supposedly were not meant to know. Metallurgy and crazy weapons. Astronomy and navigation. That happens before the Flood too. Hmmm?? The Maya remembered earlier versions of humanity that were destroyed and replaced. Their surviving creation traditions even describe early humans as possessing abilities and knowledge that the gods later restricted. The Greeks remembered previous ages of humanity populated by god like beings and heroes before later mankind came. India preserves Manu surviving a world destroying flood, while its larger stories describes humanity moving through radically different ages separated by destruction and renewal. YUGAS. Common sense tells me we shouldn't pretend the only thing these cultures remembered was a big rainstorm. Again and again, the old stories describe a world before the flood where humans lived differently and knowledge came from fish teachers, gods interacted directly with mankind, extraordinary beings existed and civilization was under conditions that disappeared afterward. Then something happened. The world was reset. Could every culture simply have invented variations of the same basic idea? Of course. But what were people trying to describe? I think there is a real possibility they were describing it as it happened.
