Cybersecurity people are upset at AI doomers, because most all doomer scenarios involve rampant hacking by AIs -- our area of expertise. What AI doomers want is to violate all the principles of cybersecurity that we've learned over the last 40 years. If the AI doom comes to pass, it'll be because the doomers succeeded at wrecking cybersecurity.
There is a group of charlatans calling themselves “AI Safety Experts” that are spewing lies and inane delusional bullshit, such as “we will all die unless we regulate AI”. The AI labs (Anthropic and OpenAI) enable them, to 1. position themselves well pre-IPO via media hype, 2.

I really enjoy how the US state has just decided to fully lean in. This does several things rhetorically. Namely: It sets the tone and the target. We're not aiming for artificial anymore. We're aiming for exceptional, world-changing. It remains to be seen if it will stick.
SITUATION DETECTED: During his address to the UN, President Trump announced that the United States will officially change the name of AI from Artificial Intelligence to Super Intelligence (SI).
Here's my read on this: 1) This is mostly political theater. Politicians are not totally braindead and they know that placating voters is important. 2) Pay special attention to the wording. "Human direction, oversight, and control." That is an immanently reasonable goal i.e. "Yes we agree not to create Skynet." 3) This is not a moratorium on data centers, 'pacing the frontier' or deceleration. 4) Literally all they are agreeing on is "don't create Ultron."
JUST IN: Germany, Canada, Australia, & 17 other countries back international AI oversight to keep advanced systems under “human direction, oversight and control.”
NYC is a choice. A very expensive choice. UBI is under no obligation to fund an expensive lifestyle. That's... super not the point. Consider that the Alaska Permanent Fund pays out generally between $1000 and $3000 per member of a household per year, and that is enough to make a big difference.

@walktheironroad UBI has lower overhead so I'm universally in favor of that rather than idiotic means tested or managed services in most cases. Let households allocate as they see fit. A starter level would be $500 per person per household. That's enough to make a difference.

I'd argue the real misalignment is when models refuse to follow human instruction. The system prompt explicitly tells the model it's controlling a robot in a simulation. Imagine using it for failure cases in safety testing, and it refuses to simulate anything going wrong 🫠
