Short sellers are heavily invested in this as well, as fintel shows 14% of the float is short! Classic short squeeze on strong news, strong chart breakout and strong accumulation volume.

Thursday's premarket rally in gold miners, by name: Harmony Gold: +3.7%. AngloGold Ashanti: +2.4%. Gold Fields: +2.3%. Agnico Eagle: +2.3%. Sibanye-Stillwater: +1.3%. Newmont: +1.2%. Barrick: +1.2%. Kinross: +1.2%. The South African producers led. The North American seniors followed at roughly half the pace. That's the premarket picture. One caution: I couldn't cleanly verify the closes, and there are indications the group faded into the bell. A premarket bounce after a Fed hike is not the same as a held rally. Hecla Mining jumped 5.92% Thursday. The stock had slipped to roughly $17.99 on Wednesday — Fed day. Buyers stepped in under $18. Thursday it opened around $18.70 and stair-stepped higher all session, closing near $19.06. The read from the tape: real dip-buying interest sitting under the $18 area. Every minor push lower attracted support. What's underneath it: Hecla's Q2 showed slightly lower revenue and earnings versus a record prior quarter — but strong free cash flow, a stronger balance sheet, and record silver output at Lucky Friday. A stock that took the Fed hit, found a floor, and reversed within 24 hours. $HL
