BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (2004) might be one of the most underrated shows ever. Rewatching it again and it’s crazy how much this series manages to do without ever feeling like it’s trying too hard. Politics, religion, war, morality, survival, identity, all of it is woven into the story while the characters are constantly changing in ways that actually feel earned. Adama and Tigh might have one of the greatest friendships in television, and the character arcs for Apollo, Starbuck, Tigh, Baltar and so many others are incredible. Watching these people break, change, make terrible decisions and somehow keep going is what makes the show work. And having a complete four season story with an actual beginning, middle and end makes it even easier to recommend today. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was doing some seriously ambitious television in the 2000s. I really wish more people talked about it like they talk about BREAKING BAD, THE SOPRANOS or THE WIRE. What’s the most underrated show you’ve ever watched?

May be the most significant interview of the year. Peter Thiel is openly calling Trump's cabinet "not very smart but very loyal people." He doesn't fear Trump. He expects Dems to win the midterms. He thinks Vance or Rubio would "struggle" in 2028. This is the man who funded Vance's Senate campaign, and helped select Trump's political appointees. An insider is walking out. When someone like Thiel says this publicly, it is a signal to the donor class: the trade is over. The upside has been captured. Get out before the midterms. Every tech oligarch who followed Thiel into the MAGA orbit now could follow him out, except may be Elon. Vance is the biggest casualty. His political godfather just publicly hedged against him. Vance cannot criticize Trump because the MAGA base is all he has. He cannot embrace Trump's wars and corruption because normie voters are leaving. He is trying to hold the Groyper base together while the donor class, the suburbs, and the moderates walk away. His prospects look way bleaker than Kamala's did when she entered 2024. Thiel has always been better at reading structural shifts than sentiment. In 2016, he saw Trump could win when everyone laughed. In 2026, he sees the project has hit its ceiling. He is not leaving on principle but because the returns could turn negative.

A lot of people are asking - Is this a hurricane? No. This is a powerful nor’easter. The biggest difference is how they get their energy. Hurricanes are fueled primarily by warm tropical ocean water and have warm cores. Nor’easters are fueled primarily by strong temperature contrasts, fronts and upper-level dynamics. But “not a hurricane” does NOT mean “not dangerous.” A strong nor’easter can still produce tropical storm to hurricane-force wind gusts, damaging coastal storm surge, and significant flash flooding. Sandy had already transitioned into a post-tropical cyclone before making landfall in New Jersey, and we all know how destructive its impacts were. For this storm, coastal New Jersey, Long Island, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts are the areas I’m watching especially closely, with flooding concerns extending farther into New England. Know what the storm is, understand the hazards, and take it seriously, but don’t panic. Stay updated and weather aware.

This is such a beautiful song. It was written by Ric Ocasek, but he felt that the song needed a better vocal performance than he could give, so he let bandmate Benjamin Orr sing it instead. The Nor'easter has formed an "eye" and that's just fine. Does that mean it is now a hurricane? Not quite. But we need to dig deeper into the jargon to explain what's going on --> don't panic.

THE SNL SKETCH THAT STARTED WHILE EVERYONE WAS WAITING FOR LORNE MICHAELS “The Californians” looks like the kind of ridiculous idea that must have taken an entire writers’ room to invent. It didn't. The basic joke began much more casually. During SNL table reads, cast members would sometimes be sitting around waiting for Lorne Michaels to arrive. Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, Kenan Thompson and others had recently been spending time in Los Angeles. So they started talking about something completely ordinary: How they had driven around Los Angeles. One person would ask where someone had gone. The answer would become increasingly specific. “I took Sunset…” “Then I got on the 405…” “Then I took La Cienega…” But the way they said it was the joke. The cast exaggerated the California accent until ordinary directions sounded like the most important information anyone had ever received. It was basically an inside joke. Andy Samberg particularly loved it. Nobody was sitting there thinking: “Someday this will become one of SNL's most recognizable recurring sketches.” At that point, it was simply something funny the cast did around the table. Then something happened that changed the entire idea. The joke was about directions. But someone realized it could be about something much bigger. And suddenly, those ridiculous freeway conversations had the potential to become a soap opera.

This 'Super El Niño' won't end for a while, and it's likely not even at its peak yet... We're still expecting El Niño by late-winter, where by spring, we'll have transitioned into a neutral status. This year has already been hyperactive in the Pacific for hurricanes as a result.

It’s wrong to hype stuff. But equally wrong to constantly down play stuff. This Nor’easter is legit.

This is an exceedingly rare satellite loop for the East Pacific. Last night, Hurricanes Polo and Odalys rapidly intensified SIMULTANEOUSLY within just 1,000 miles of each other, reaching 180 MPH and 130 MPH peak strengths at exactly the same time. El Niño-fueled hyperactivity.

On April 4, 1943, an American B-24 bomber named Lady Be Good flew its first mission, to Naples. On the way back to its base in Libya, it flew over its airfield in the dark and continued into the Sahara. When it ran out of fuel, the crew bailed out. It disappeared. In 1958, an oil exploration team found the plane in the Libyan desert, more than 400 miles from its base. It was almost intact. The radio still worked. There was coffee in a thermos. The crew's remains were found later. Most of them had walked about 80 miles north before they collapsed. One man had walked more than 100 miles before he died. Hurricane Nolo well south of Hawaii is powering up and looks like a "major hurricane" heading into Sunday. Don't sleep on Nolo -- it has a window to intensify to mid-range Category 4. Thankfully, no direct impacts to Hawaii.

Saturday September 26, 2026, 9:40 PM: What a beautifully displayed satellite view tonight shows a robust linear moisture axis from the decaying Odalyis spreading northward into Southern California in the last six hours. The reason is the Gulf of Alaska low axis position approximately 230 miles off the coast of Oregon and Washington. In tandem with dual hurricanes simultaneously due to the ongoing very strong El Niño. This moisture is being watched closely for any elevated convection parameters tonight from 11 PM to Monday 4AM from San Luis Obispo to San Diego counties for convective tropical showers or perhaps isolated thunderstorms not a non-zero chance. Polo remnants will move moisture directly into Central and Southern Arizona by Monday 3AM. This also includes Phoenix, Tucson, and Flagstaff, with at least 0.60 to 1.35 inches tropical slug of moisture present in the region. Keep in mind the humidty values will significantly increase from 65% to 72% for the majority of the Southwest U.S and coastal and valley regions of Southern California in the next 12 to 36 hours. Precipable water values will also increase from 0.50 currently to 1.2 inches which may provide more of a baseline moisture source. Hurricane Polo is going to cross into the Gulf of California --> one of the neatest things naturally as the ocean water is insanely hot over 90°F --> one final kick of extra "climate juice" prior to landfall into Mexico.

For just the 3rd time on record, three 105+ mph #hurricanes are spinning simultaneously in the eastern North Pacific (to 180°W): #Nolo, #Odalys and #Polo. The only other times were Aug. 16, 1993 (Keoni, Fernanda, Greg) and Aug. 29–31, 2015 (Kilo, Ignacio, Jimena).

Glass is a true "permanent material"—it can be recycled indefinitely (100% closed-loop) without any loss in quality, purity, or performance. Unlike most materials, its chemical structure remains unchanged through repeated melting and reforming, allowing old bottles and jars to become brand-new high-quality containers forever. This stands in stark contrast to plastic, which is far cheaper for companies to produce and transport (lighter weight means lower shipping costs, and raw material/energy inputs are generally lower). Yet this short-term savings comes at a steep environmental price: we're degrading ecosystems, landfills, and oceans to cut a few cents per unit. Glass offers genuine sustainability advantages when recycled properly: • Using cullet (recycled glass fragments) replaces virgin raw materials (sand, soda ash, limestone)—one tonne of cullet saves about 1.2 tonnes of new resources. • It slashes energy use dramatically: every 10% increase in cullet reduces furnace energy needs by ~2.5–3%, and melting 100% cullet can cut energy by up to ~40% compared to virgin production. • CO₂ emissions drop significantly—studies show ~580–670 kg saved per tonne of recycled glass (cradle-to-cradle), with up to 58–60% reduction when using high cullet percentages. • Fewer raw material extractions mean less mining impact and habitat disruption. The key to unlocking glass's full potential is clean, color-sorted collection. Mixed colors or contamination (from curbside debris, ceramics, or other recyclables) often downgrades glass to lower-value uses like fiberglass insulation or road aggregate instead of bottle-to-bottle recycling. Proper sorting—by color and purity—keeps it in the premium loop. By improving recycling habits (rinsing containers, separating by color where possible, and supporting deposit-return systems), we can maximize glass's role in a true circular economy. It's one of the few packaging options that genuinely protects resources long-term—let's not sacrifice it for cheaper, disposable alternatives that harm the planet.
