THE LAFFER CURVE EXPLAINS $BTC In 1979, the UK’s top tax rate was 83%. Earn another £1 and you kept just 17p. Thatcher cut the rate to 60%, then 40%. Over time, the top 1% went from paying roughly 11% of all income tax to about 29% today. That is the Laffer Curve in one sentence: Raise the price of productive behavior too far, and you get less of it. Now apply that to money. Governments can extract wealth through taxes. They can also extract it through inflation and currency dilution. But capital responds to incentives too. Bitcoin changes the equation because capital now has an exit: 21 million. Globally portable. No central issuer. The deeper insight is not that Bitcoin avoids taxes. It is that Bitcoin creates competition for government money. And once capital has a credible alternative, governments face a new constraint: Abuse the currency enough, and the tax base does not just shrink. The monetary base can leave like we see in California right now. The Laffer Curve limits taxation. Bitcoin imposes a Laffer Curve on fiat itself.
