The Treasury doesn’t believe in ordinary people owning things. They want their cronies in big business to monopolise or oligopolise the economy. That way control is in the hands of a few rather than the many. This isn’t about raising tax revenue, it’s about smashing what remains of family businesses so the vultures can pick their carcasses. There is a time and a place for natural monopolies run or controlled by the state but for the vast majority of sectors the best model is that of mass competition. Not only is that the most productive and innovative economic model, it’s also the model that produces genuine diversity among our towns and cities and gives people a sense that they hold a real stake in their communities. Family businesses are the foundation of our economy and Restore Britain wants to see more of them, not fewer. We are the bulwark against predatory international corporations, we are the party of mass ownership.
