The distinction is the extent of government control over production, distribution, pricing and competition. A government entering the supermarket market to compete with private retailers is one thing. Government taking control of food distribution and determining what consumers pay is quite another. Communism isn't defined by a single government-owned business, but public ownership and centralised economic control are fundamental features of communist economic systems. Your electricity example doesn't disprove the ideological connection. It simply demonstrates that government ownership alone doesn't make an entire country communist. I never claimed it did.

When describing the colour of an Orange, what do you call it? Should someone counter argue that your Orange is in fact Orange? This is the logic you are applying to her Commie comment. The Greens member "literally" promoted a Communist policy as something The Greens are willing to pursue in an election. I don't know that she can explain it any more than "You're a Commie!"

It's cheap crappy journalism. Here's some actual facts of the matter: The candidate in question had all charges thrown out of court - they were Struck Out/Withdrawn. Not a negotiation plea. All of them. Not a single charge heard before the court, because there was no evidence to present to the judge. What the article likely doesn't tell you though is the Context of the 2016 Wyndham election; (where the charges arose from) The 2016 Wyndham City Council election was the subject of an unusually extensive Local Government Inspectorate investigation. There were 95 candidates, and the Inspectorate interviewed 90 of them. Its subsequent report identified 10 candidates whose behaviour raised questions about whether their candidacies were genuine. Two candidates interviewed by the Inspectorate said they had been unaware they had even nominated. The Inspectorate's report also examined concerns about candidates assisting other candidates to nominate, unusual preference arrangements, candidates conducting little or no campaigning, and allegations involving eligibility and candidate relationships. The scale of compliance and integrity issues arising from that election was also significant. The Inspectorate subsequently reported that 44 of the 95 Wyndham candidates; 46 per cent-failed to comply with campaign donation return requirements. There were also separate prosecutions involving other people associated with Wyndham local government during this period. For example, then-Wyndham councilor Intaj Khan was separately prosecuted by the Local Government Inspectorate over his statutory interest disclosures. He ultimately pleaded guilty to eight charges and was convicted in the Sunshine Magistrates' Court in July 2018. He was fined $26,000 and ordered to pay $15,000 in costs. His subsequent appeal was withdrawn and the conviction stood. I understand Mr. Khan was at that time also pursuing Labor Party preselection.....
