One important context for recent developments is the debate inside Iran over whether Trump needs to be given a face-saving “exit window” from the war: an arrangement he can sell as a victory even if Iran secures much of what it wants. The idea would be to give Trump a narrative he can take home: “I reopened Hormuz despite everything Iran did. My threats and military buildup forced Tehran to buckle and accept my terms.” Meanwhile, Iran could focus less on the optics and more on locking in the strategic gains it cares about, while still making concessions of its own. I’m not saying this is what’s happening. But this has been a real part of the high-level debate inside Iran. Of course, the big question in such a scenario would be whether Washington would actually take such an off-ramp. Even if Tehran offered Trump a politically attractive way to end the war, it’s far from clear that the erratic Donald Trump would take the deal rather than continue pressing for more. Regardless of whether this thinking had anything to do with the greater volume of oil getting out of the Persian Gulf in recent weeks, or Iran’s relatively more conciliatory messaging (i.e., Pezeshkian at UNGA), Tehran is now seemingly decisively moving in the other direction: escalating and doing more to constrain Persian Gulf oil flows.👇

Oil Is Flowing. That Doesn’t Mean Hormuz Is Open. Simply counting how many barrels of oil are moving through the Strait of Hormuz misses the deeper problem. The Strait is not truly “open” simply because tankers are still getting through. If shipping companies have to pay captains extraordinary premiums to make the transit, if vessels remain exposed to Iranian attacks and harassment, and if insurance and transportation costs are dramatically higher than they were before February 28, then this is not a return to normal maritime traffic. Oil moving through the Strait is not the same thing as the Strait being open. The real measure is whether commercial shipping can operate safely, predictably, and at something close to normal cost. Until that happens, the Hormuz problem has not been solved. #iran

Hormuz is not “open” when ship captains have to essentially be bribed to make the journey, vessels need military protection to get through, and oil producers are paying astronomical costs for every trip.

Spot on. For the emerging area of personal AI agents for consumers (eg. Muse): - they don't want to charge consumers - can't show ads because unlike social media apps where the aim is to keep your attention, the whole point of automation is to remove the user's attention whilst the agent acts on your behalf. - so the only logical business model is to take a cut of (agentic commerce) transactions.
