But in 1942, the year in which most victims of the Holocaust were murdered, you couldn’t really escape this information in Britain.’ So British people knew quite early about the Holocaust—and the government knew even more—but too little was done to try to stop it. The parallels with the Gaza genocide are striking, but in many ways this has been much worse. Just been to see LIFE SUPPORT, remarkable film about Gaza as seen through the eyes of British and other international doctors. Utterly harrowing. Genocide. It is on Apple TV but should be on the Beeb. And every MP should see it.

My father was from an ancient Christian village in the mountains of Lebanon. It's hard to describe how revered olive trees are. They are a symbol of the Biblical land. You only uproot them if you have no connection to it.

More than 100 French and British former diplomats have said Palestine is being erased in front of the world’s eyes and called for urgent action including trade and arms sales bans to press Israel to accept a Palestinian state.

Long post, sorry. But I swear, one of the disorders of this island is that whenever we do something well, we destroy it to appease an imagined reactionary swing voter in about 20 constituencies. We do universities well. Genuinely, world-beatingly as a sector. So naturally we're dismantling them — because "migrants," "foreigners," and "Mickey Mouse degrees." While ignoring entirely that the sector: 1. Redistributes wealth around the country as students move between regions. 2. Delivers a massive net benefit through R&D 3. Anchors local economies — in half our towns, the university is the economy 3. Is one of our biggest export industries, with international students bringing in billions 5. Trains the doctors, nurses, and teachers as well as producing an educated population, in general. 6. Remains one of the few engines of social mobility we have left 7. Generates the spin-outs and startups every government has claimed it wants more of 8. Is among the last sources of British soft power that still commands global respect 9. And is a GOOD in and of itself, builds lifelong friendships, improves social cohesion, exposes young people to different ways of life and living. The most formative experience in many peoples' lives. And they're not being destroyed, for the most part, by the sector itself, but by stupid decision after stupid decision by the government around how to run and fund them. It is a genuine catastrophe, tanking our last stellar industry. But instead of even reporting on the broader impacts this will all have, the university is just castigated as some fortress in the culture war.

Today, a historic mass funeral in Gaza City laid to rest 112 Palestinian civilians from the Abu Sharia and Al-Hasayna families, making it the largest single-event funeral procession in Palestinian history. These victims were killed on November 22, 2023, during a devastating Israeli airstrike that completely leveled a densely populated residential block in al-Sabra neighborhood, claiming the lives of approximately 308 people in total. Because israeli intense military attacks and severe equipment shortages blocked emergency access to the site, the bodies remained trapped under the concrete rubble for over two and a half years. The collective burial finally took place at the Baptist Cemetery following an arduous, days-long recovery operation by the Gaza Civil Defense, drawing thousands of mourners to honor the victims, who included over 40 children and 30 women. Now ask yourself this: if this had happened anywhere else in the world, would there have been live coverage from the scene? Would journalists from CNN, BBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, CBC, Sky News, France 24, or other major international outlets have been broadcasting this funeral to a global audience? Surely, many a single victim elsewhere could command hours of international coverage. But sorry, the victims are Palestinians and the mainstream media does not even consider them human.

Not a single person has been held accountable for their participation in genocide. Meanwhile, opponents of genocide are sentenced as terrorists. What kind of dystopian world are we living in? This absurdity must end. De-proscribe Palestine Action, now.

"Genocide isn't just about Israelis and Palestinians. It's about the whole world – about humanity, and how we’re erasing humanity." The victims of the genocide in Gaza are Palestinians, and the perpetrators are Israelis. But genocide is a universal human phenomenon. As such, the responsibility to recognize, understand and oppose it lies with all of us. At the same time, while genocide shares common core aspects, every instance has unique characteristics. We cannot consider #AI to be morally neutral. In reality, every technical tool embodies choices and priorities through what it measures, ignores, and optimizes, and how it classifies people and situations. Emily Thornberry has today said the government has let down the Palestinian people, and allowed Israel to act with impunity. The audacity. Here she is in October 2023 refusing to condemn Israel cutting off power and supplies to Gaza. Don’t let these people rewrite history.
